Firewood Types

We supply two types of firewood, mixed firewood and hardwood

What is the difference?

Mixed fire wood is a hard and soft wood mix. Most customers prefer this, as soft wood is easy to start a fire from and hard wood keeps the fire in.

Hardwood loads are nomrally for open fires and customers that like to keep their stove on all night/ The only wood we use for our hard loads are ash, oak, and beech.

All our firewood is 18 months to 2 years old only and is cut and split in the summer months to finish off the seasoning process.

All our firewood logs are 8-10 inches in length, thick ness may vary, moisture content 18% and below depending on timber species. Larger firewood logs are available on request.

Tree Reduction
Tree reduction can be an alternative to tree removal, as we can manage the shape and size of your tree to lessen the impact of a dense or oppressive canopy. See some examples of tree reduction in our gallery section.

Tree Pruning
Similar to reduction, tree pruning targets parts of your tree, such as diseased branches or the crown, in order to benefit the health of the tree.

Sustainable Timber

What Is Sustainable Timber?

Timber is sustainable if it comes from a well-managed forest. Trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow, and this isn’t released when they are harvested and used for timber. In a well-managed forest, more trees are replanted than cut so the forest can continue to absorb carbon dioxide. Maple Firewood Great Yarmouth only sell only the finest sourced sustainable  timber.

What Are The Benefits Of Sustainable Timber?

As well as the plus points of using wood generally, sustainable timber has other benefits:

  • Wood is considered as carbon neutral because trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow.
  • It has good thermal insulation properties.
  • If you use sustainable timber, you are contributing to the growth of forests, which absorb carbon dioxide, the major greenhouse gas.
  • Using sustainable timber contributes points towards the sustainability rating in the Code for Sustainable Homes, the government’s ratings scheme for new homes.
